The Transportation Worker II in Traffic Operations – Signing and Striping performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the installation and maintenance of traffic control signs, pavement markings and traffic control.
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Lay out, stripe, paint and maintain lane lines, center lines, crosswalks, turn arrows stop bars, railroad crossings, parking stalls, curbs, and other pavement markings;
Operate a variety of equipment in the installation and maintenance of traffic control markings, including propane torches, paint stripers, paint guns, forklifts, bucket truck aerial lift, drill presses, grinders, cutting torches and welders;
Preventative maintenance and new installations on all traffic control devices;
Modify and recycle damaged sign posts;
Install traffic cones and barricades, direct and control traffic during normal work schedule, evenings, weekends and special events.
Transportation Worker II: $17.546 - $23.687 per hour
Tuesday through Friday (4/10 work schedule). Two shifts throughout the year, 5:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. (during street striping).
Requires the equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
The term “equivalent” means that directly related work experience exceeding the required work experience will substitute in equal time increments for college-level education, for example: one year of additional directly related work experience will substitute for one year of college education (30 credit hours).
Requires one year of responsible experience in the installation and maintenance of traffic signs and markings comparable to that of a Transportation Worker I in the City of Tempe.
Candidates must have the minimum amount of work experience. Education will not substitute for the required work experience; however, related unpaid and/or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying work experience.
Certifications, Licenses, and/or Registrations:
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Possession of, or required to obtain a Work Zone Safety and a Signs & Marking Level I International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Certification.
Possession of a valid Arizona Class A driver’s license within 180 days of hire. Continued employment in this classification requires the renewal, and required to maintain a valid Arizona Class A driver’s license for this assignment.
Successful completion of initial probationary period is contingent upon passing an FBI background investigation. Based on position, referred applicants may be subject to additional testing which may include pre-employment polygraph, physical and drug screening.
