Traffic Signal Superintendent

NATURE OF WORK:
This is skilled and supervisory work related to traffic signal operation, installation, maintenance, and the repair of related electrical, electronic and mechanical equipment.  Work is performed according to established departmental and city policies, standards of the electricians’ trade and industry standards. The determination of methods, priorities and scheduling allows considerable independent judgment.  Work is performed under the direction of the department head who reviews work through inspections and reports.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or vocational school and five years’ experience in traffic signal installation, modification, maintenance and repair, including; experience installing and trouble-shooting microwave and video detection technology, experience with the design and layout of layer 2 and 3 network switches, maintaining hybrid microwave, testing and troubleshooting fiber optic networks utilizing packet loss and OFTDRS and copper networks and integration of Naztec ATMS.now central system with existing infrastructure.

Three to five years’ supervisory experience including the ability to schedule, assign and supervise skilled and semi-skilled personnel, to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and to express ideas clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.

 Thorough knowledge of safety hazards and precautions and the Electrical Code of the State of Connecticut.  Skilled in the use of tools, techniques and equipment of the electricians’ trade.
IMSA Traffic Signal Level 3 and Work Zone Safety Certifications required within six months.
