We have an outstanding opportunity available for Traffic Signal Technician to perform a variety of skilled electronics and electrical maintenance and repair work on traffic control and illuminated street name signs, and to perform related work as required.


Responsibilities include installing, maintaining, repairing, and timing all traffic signal equipment including controllers, poles, signal heads, conduit, wiring, vehicle detectors and other traffic control devices; installing, maintaining, and repairing illuminated street name signs and automatic traffic counters; may inspect contract work performed on traffic signals and illuminated street name signs; maintaining daily records; following proper safety precautions for working with electric powered equipment and related tools and ensuring  that other employees adhere to such practices; wiring controllers and building special control equipment for signals performing unusual operations; replacing globes, fluorescent, and neon tubes and starters; driving and operating a truck and construction equipment as required; and performing emergency repairs.


Requires three years of experience in solid state electronics repair work, and graduation from high school or equivalent OR one year’s experience in solid state circuitry and an Associate Degree in electronics, and a valid California Class “C” driver’s license or equivalent at time of hire. Additional requirements include knowledge of the fundamentals of electricity as related to the operation of traffic signal devices; the maintenance and repair of electro-mechanical and solid state traffic control equipment; safety precautions necessary to protect employees and the public when repairing traffic signal control equipment; and the State of California standard specifications for traffic signals.  Ability to use small tools and shop equipment to modify, repair, and maintain signals and automatic traffic counting devices and illuminated street name signs; follow electrical and engineering drawings and specifications; keep records and reports; follow oral and written directions; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees, and the public is also needed.


We offer a starting salary of $4,628 to $6,380 per month plus superb benefits including City-contributed retirement plan, cafeteria-style health benefits, and tuition reimbursement.
