We have an outstanding opportunity available for a qualified individual to perform a variety of semi-skilled electrical, and electronic maintenance and repair work on traffic control and illuminated street name signs; and to perform related work as required.


Responsibilities include assisting in a variety of maintenance, and repair work of street traffic control systems, including tracing malfunctions in electrical circuits and making repairs to traffic control equipment; replacing light globes, fluorescent tubes and starters; installing, overhauling, and repairing traffic controllers and related control devices;  performing all work under established safety practices; and driving on City business.


Requires high school graduate or equivalent and one year’s experience in electronics/electrical repair work OR one year of experience in para-professional engineering work OR certification as a Traffic Signal Technician in the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA), and a valid California Class “C” driver’s license or equivalent.


Additional skills include knowledge of basic electricity and electronics; ability to use common tools in mechanical work; learn electrical and electronic systems; follow safety policies and regulations; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees, and the public. Knowledge of computer equipment and systems desired.


PLEASE NOTE:  Due to mandated safety requirements, no one who is over 275 lbs. will be

allowed to operate the Public Works bucket truck.  Operating a bucket truck is an essential function of the job.  If you are over this weight limit, you will not be eligible to participate in the recruitment process and cannot be considered for the position.  A weigh-in will take place during your written examination.


We offer a starting salary of $3,878 to $5,345 per month plus superb benefits including

City-contributed retirement plan, cafeteria-style health benefits, and tuition reimbursement.
