The Department of Public Works and Transportation is currently seeking highly qualified individuals to fill an Engineering Technician IV position, grade A-22, in the Office of Highway Maintenance, Traffic Management and Operations Division.
This is lead para-professional engineering work that participates and assists in the installation operation and maintenance of complex traffic system components including traffic signals and signal systems, controllers, video detection, CCTV equipment, communications infrastructure, field inspection and bench work.
The work schedule of this position may be subject to adjustments outside of the regularly scheduled working hours in order to meet demands for operational efficiency.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
Performs and leads subordinate level technical personnel in the maintenance, construction and installation of traffic control devices and complex computerized Closed Loop Telemetry Traffic Signal Systems; performs adjustments or modification of traffic signal devices and associated equipment; assists in surveying the operation of traffic signals and signal systems manually and via personal computer; troubleshoots and repairs solid state modular circuitry and video equipment both in the field and shop; assists in maintaining a working stock of traffic signal equipment and video electronic replacement parts; assists in the review of signal plans and specifications; prepares and maintains data and logs for project records; assists in preparing job cost summaries; provides inspection services for the installation of traffic control devices; acts as liaison with residents, businesses, consultants and other Departmental agencies; participates in the Department's snow and ice control program and other emergency operations as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must possess a high school diploma or a GED, supplemented by college courses in higher mathematics (algebra, trigonometry, geometry) and civil engineering, plus five (5) years of paraprofessional engineering experience, one (1) of which must include supervisory experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. EACH APPLICANT MUST INCLUDE INFORMATION WHICH CLEARLY DEMONSTRATES THE ABOVE QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with Naztec traffic control and Traficon video detection systems and related software.
- International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) traffic signal level II certification.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Must possess a valid driver's License.
- Must pass a physical examination.
- Must be willing to participate as a critical, essential employee in the Department's Snow and Ice Control Program and other emergency special activities as assigned
- Must be willing to work an adjusted schedule, if needed.
DURATION OF ELIGIBILITY: Candidates will be selected from a temporary register of eligibles which will become effective approximately four (4) weeks after the closing date. Once a selection has been made, the register will expire.
