 Road Safety Initiatives Analyst

The Road Safety Initiatives Analyst, Department of Engineering, Traffic Division, reports directly to the Supervisor, Traffic and Parking. This position is responsible for all aspects of the City’s collision database and traffic counting program as follows.

 

Collision Database:

  • ensure data integrity
  • analyze and interpret collision report data
  • liaise with Royal Newfoundland Constabulary on issues of report information and accuracy
  • produce annual collision report
  • develop safety performance functions
  • perform network screening to identify collision prone locations
  • evaluate and recommend road safety countermeasures
  • operate and maintain City’s collision database software, TES
  • participate in road safety audits and in-service road safety reviews
  • prepare reports in support of Council and staff decisions

 

Traffic counting program:.

  • schedule intersection midblock traffic counts and ensure proper placement of counters to collect volume, speed and vehicle classification information using Jamar – Petrolite intersection counters, Nu-metrics ATR’s, and Miovision video counters.
  • analyze traffic count data, including preparation of any required reports, and respond to external requests for traffic count information.
  • archive database for future reference using the TES software and GIS. 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Must have a diploma of Transportation Engineering Technology from a recognized educational institution and be registered, or eligible for registration, with the Association of Engineering Technologists and Technicians of Newfoundland and Labrador.

 

Experience: Five (5) years experience in a traffic operations environment, and experience with the

management of a collision database system.

 

Other: Excellent oral and written communications skills, the ability to work effectively in a team environment, and a strong knowledge of personal computers and standard software applications.  Valid Driver’s License required.

 

 

COMPENSATION  

The rate of pay for this position is set at $33.36 per hour, 9:00 am – 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday. Applicants should be prepared to join the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 1289, immediately upon appointment.
