This position coordinates the technical and administrative work in directing the signal operations of the Traffic Engineering section of the Engineering Department. Your duties include developing and administering the traffic signal program, coordinating a small group of people engaged in technical work, preparing specifications and cost estimates for traffic control systems, directing consultants and contractors engaged in the design, installation, operation and maintenance of traffic control and street lighting systems, planning and supervising traffic studies, investigating and responding to traffic concerns, and preparing related recommendations and reports to Council.

Desirable training includes graduation from an Institute of Technology with emphasis in the traffic/transportation field plus considerable related experience sufficient to qualify for certification as an Applied Science Technologist in the Province of BC or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  You will have considerable knowledge about traffic signal operations and traffic management principles, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Proficiency with Synchro/Simm software and experience with NEMA traffic signal controllers and advanced traffic management systems will be an asset.

SALARY RANGE:         $5,495 /month starting salary (Pay Grade 28)
STATUS:                      Regular Full Time
SCHEDULE:                 Monday – Friday
                                    70 hours bi-weekly with nine day fortnight (one day off every other week)
