JOB TITLE: Traffic Signal Operations Engineer-in-Training



SUMMARY: The Traffic Signal Operations Engineer-in-Training will be a direct report to the Chief Multimodal Transportation Engineer from TranSmart Technologies (TranSmart). Their daily report will be to the Client Freeway Signal Operations Senior Engineer and the Prime Regional Operations Manager, with direct multi-agency communications. 

This position maintains business hours (Monday – Friday)
Responsible for monitoring traffic signal systems
Signal System Central Software set-up and maintenance 
Signal System Performance Metric set-up and maintenance
Collection of traffic data, including intersection lane measurements, grades and signal phasing
Troubleshooting traffic signals, active traffic management systems, computer network, or traffic surveillance camera malfunctions
Assist in the development of coordinated traffic signal timing plans, development of timing databases and conducting before and after studies
Conduct traffic and intelligent transportation systems (ITS) engineering studies
Coordinate effectively with agency staff, contractors, and other consultants
Implement signal timing plans and signal timing changes in relation to current traffic trends
Adherence to signal timing plan protocols
Assess performance of traffic signal system and relative report preparation
Other ad-hoc initiatives as assigned by the Project Management Team
Performs other duties as assigned

Signal Systems Technician experience or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, or related engineering or technology field
Virginia State Driver’s License in good standing
Engineer-in-Training or IMSA Traffic Signal Field Technician Level 2 certified
Geographic familiarity with regional freeway system and arterial roads
Radio and telecommunications experience is a plus
Implementation and maintenance of traffic signals and timings
Travel within region of responsibility
Other ad-hoc initiatives as assigned by the Project Management Team
Sometimes requires working outside of regular business hours to complete tasks
Adherence to protocols in task execution
Adherence to established timelines
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely
Performs other duties as assigned
