This is the entry-level class in the ITS Technician series.  Under the direct guidance of a journey-level ITS Technician II or ITS Operations Foreman, an employee in this class learns to maintain, install, and repair traffic signal equipment and systems.  Initially, the ITS Technician Trainee develops skills and increases knowledge until such time as assignments can become more difficult.  Work involves learning to perform heavy manual labor under varying weather conditions and may require stand-by duty and overtime as required.  Employees of this classification may progress by noncompetitive promotion to ITS Technician I upon meeting the specific criteria-based promotion requirements of performance and coursework.
