Nature of Work
The purpose of this job is to construct, maintain, upgrade and repair overhead and underground traffic signal intersections, using heavy equipment. Maintains communication and fiber optic networks and read blueprints.

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

Positions are available in the following areas within the City of Grand Rapids:

Energy, Lighting and Communications (ELC) – Operates and maintains primary and secondary power distribution systems, this includes overhead and underground facilities and 18,000 Street Lights.
Signals – Work involves construction, maintenance, and repair of traffic signals, and other lines and circuits. Assignments may be accompanied by sketches or blueprints, and work is ordinarily subject to review by supervisor. Supervision is received from a higher-level trade’s supervisor who may assist on unusually difficult or emergency work.

Minimum Training and Experience
Graduation from high school with courses in electricity or related work.
–AND–

A valid Electrical Journeyman license
–AND —

Three (3) years of experience in line maintenance and construction.

Required Licenses or Certifications:
Possession of a valid State of Michigan driver’s license.
Possession of a valid CDL Class A Michigan driver’s license with appropriate endorsements or the ability to obtain this license within ninety (90) days of employment.
THIS IS A SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITION SUBJECT TO THE DEPT OF TRANSPORTATION (DOT) RANDOM DRUG & ALCOHOL TESTING PROGRAM. A DOT WAIVER FORM MUST BE COMPLETED WHEN AN APPLICATION IS SUBMITTED.
