The City of Penticton is looking to fill the position of Meter and Traffic Technician in our Electric Utility Division. The Electric Utility Division of our Energy & Environment Department is responsible for overseeing the operations, maintenance and ongoing improvement of the City of Penticton’s electrical systems. This department manages all electric services from infrastructure and electrical distribution to metering, traffic signals and street lighting.

Reporting to the Electric Utility Supervisor, the Meter and Traffic Technician is responsible for the City of Penticton’s electric utility meters and traffic signals.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

 Perform duties related to all aspects of meter maintenance, testing, installation and removal.

Install and maintain traffic signal equipment and related devices.

Liaise with various stakeholders (other departments, customers, suppliers, etc.) regarding metering or related issues.

Support ongoing management and maintenance of power pedestals used for events throughout the City

Perform other related duties as assigned that are in accordance with job responsibilities and necessary departmental and organizational objectives.

Required Knowledge, Abilities & Skills:

 Microsoft suite of programs (Word, Excel, Outlook).

G.I.S. systems (ESRI) an asset. Telecommunications systems.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Education, Training & Experience:

Red Seal Electrician (B-FSR certification required or ability to obtain).

Meter Technician and/or Traffic Signal Technician Certifications are an asset. Apprentices willing and able to complete necessary certifications are welcome to apply, however preference will be given to Journeymen.

Three or more years of Electrical/Traffic or related experience.

Valid B.C. Class 5 Driver’s Licence with ability to maintain (abstract will be requested).
