ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Works under the general direction of the Traffic Engineering Administrator. Supervises workers engaged in maintaining and constructing traffic signals and flashers. Ensures work is performed in compliance with engineering plans and city specifications. Manages personnel providing training, work direction, assignment of duties and disciplinary actions. Instructs crew on the type of equipment and material to use in order to obtain desired results. Prepares service center budget and maintains inventory of signal parts and supplies. Investigates and resolves citizen complaints and requests and notifies supervisors of findings and action taken. Records daily operation activities and prepares reports. Inspects equipment and prepares work orders for maintenance required. Drives to various locations to inspect equipment and worksites. Assists in performing tasks of subordinates when necessary.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with management, staff, and the public. Requires the ability to conduct site visits involving traversing uneven land. Requires the ability to visually review plans, specifications, and drawings and the ability to operate computers and automobiles.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Majority of work is performed in a shop-like environment. Frequently travels to various job sites at different shifts due to unexpected conditions and may be exposed to hot and cold temperatures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or Electronics Engineering Technology or a closely related field and nine (9) years of experience in signal maintenance or any related field with at least five (5) of the nine (9) years in a supervisory/lead capacity; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Must possess and maintain a valid driver license as a condition of continued employment.
Special Requirements: The City Charter requires that City Employees must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from date of Employment.
