Your Impact

  • Supervise, assign and direct the work of traffic signal field crews including safety provisions, training, assigning daily tasks, monitoring and evaluating performance, and providing technical guidance on maintenance repair, and operation of traffic signal equipment.
  • Respond to emergency calls regarding traffic signal operation to identify issues and repair.
  • Collaborate closely with the Traffic Management Center to assist with addressing field concerns, testing, and maintaining the traffic system.
  • Review engineer plans and reports.
  • Maintain and monitor the traffic signal local area network infrastructure including switches, servers, and applications.
  • Assist with contract management duties such as preparation of scope of work, contract budget monitoring, and contract vendor selection process.
  • Interact and communicate with various City departments and staff, vendors, contractors, and members of the public.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree with three to five years of experience with traffic signals and computer network systems.
  • Two years in supervisory capacity of field crews, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities. 
  • Completion of the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Levels I, II and III Traffic Signal Certification Program highly desirable.
  • A valid California Driver’s license is required.

  • Seasoned professional with five years of experience in maintenance, repair, and operation of electronic traffic control signals and equipment with two years of experience supervising field crews.
  • Proven track record of outstanding customer service, situational awareness, and sound judgement. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to communicate effectively with City staff and external partners such as contract vendors and members of the public.
  • Demonstrated leadership directing staff and contractors.
  • Computer literacy with working knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems, word processing, and records management.
  • Working knowledge of key regulations at the local, state, and federal levels, such as, California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (CA MUTCD), Work Area Traffic Control Handbook (WATCH), and California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) regulations.

Experience with fiber optic networks, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and integration projects.
