|Under limited supervision the Supervisor – Traffic Signals plans, organizes and supervises the activities of staff involved in traffic signal system maintenance, construction, and repair work and to performs a variety of technical tasks relative to the division. Provides direct and indirect leadership over a variety of personnel in Traffic Signals and other Transportation Division activities as assigned. Assist in the hiring, training and evaluation of employees. Assists in the response to emergency situations that affect the Transportation Department. Assist other departments and divisions of the City as necessary.|
|EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:|
|Supervises by planning, assigning and evaluating the work of staff involved in traffic signal maintenance; evaluates operations and activities of assigned responsibilities; schedules appropriate equipment and materials participates in the selection of staff; monitors employee performance objectives; prepares employee performance reviews; provides or coordinates staff training; works with employees to correct deficiencies; implements disciplinary procedures.|
Utilizes Advance Traffic Management System (ATMS) software; assist in complex signal Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) troubleshooting; performs traffic signal optimization by investigating internal and external complaints; studies operational characteristics; submits recommendations to superior; performs timing adjustment to time base coordination system and fully actuated systems; upgrades and modified equipment at signalized intersections.
Maintains traffic signal closed loop signal communication; maintains computerized database; sets up hardware for communication systems; time base signal plan implementation; prepares signal timing reports.
Prepares purchases orders and submits for approval; maintains inventory; maintains and purchases supplies; monitors budget and expenditures.
Handles special projects and others by working zones for special events; responds to emergency road closers; responds to emergency accidents.
|EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:|
|Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. Some college is preferred.|
Five years of Traffic Signal experience or closely related field, including at least one year of lead, senior, or supervisory responsibility.
|CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:|
|I.M.S.A. Traffic Signal Level III Certification preferred.|
Possession of a Class A Commercial Texas Driver’s License or ability to obtain within 90 days.
Possession of I.M.S.A. Work Zone Certification or equivalent.
Possession of I.M.S.A. Traffic Signal Technician Level II Certification or ability to obtain in 6 months.
