Performs highly technical work on the traffic signal and traffic control device systems. Performs complex analysis of traffic modeling and develops traffic signal timing solutions. Coordinates with others to work on the most complex traffic systems devices. Designs and installs unique traffic systems equipment such as digital traffic simulators, software applications, and special purpose electronic circuits. Participates in planning, assigning and reviewing the work of lower-level technicians in the installation, inspection, maintenance and testing of traffic systems.
Experience and Training Guidelines – Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Minimum of four years of licensed traffic signal maintenance experience (at the Limited Maintenance Electrician level or Journey Electrician level or higher) which includes electronic troubleshooting and repair.
Some specialized training in electronics theory and troubleshooting; an Associate’s Degree in electronics or equivalent is preferable and will meet one year experience.
License or Certificate:
State of Oregon Limited Maintenance Electrician (LME) License or Limited Manufacturing Plant Journeyman License (PJ), or General Journeyman Electrician License (J)
IMSA Traffic Signal Technician II certification, IMSA Traffic Signal Technician Level III certification is desirable. IMSA Bench Testing certification is desirable.
