The Position

The City of Cedar Park is seeking qualified applicants for Traffic Signal Technician I or Traffic Signal Technician II. 

  • Inspects and repairs street lights;
  • Monitors and maintains street cameras;
  • Installs and maintains vehicle sensing equipment at traffic signals;
  • Performs the replacement of traffic signal lights, heads and control hardware;
  • Performs routine maintenance of traffic signals, school zone lights, and street lights;
  • Operates a bucket truck and a variety of other city vehicles;
  • Operates a variety of equipment, machinery, and tools;
  • Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls;
  • Maintains and installs internally lighted street name (ILSN) signs;
  • Works an on-call rotation to respond to emergencies and after-hour repair needs; and
  • Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

Additional responsibilities of a Technician II: 
Trouble-shoots traffic signal problems;

  • Maintains wide-area network (WAN) and associated telemetry systems;
  • Installs and maintains new equipment, removes and replaces components;
  • Calculates and measures resistance, amperage, voltage and wattage values of active electrical and electronic systems.

Acceptable Experience, Training, Certifications and Licenses

Traffic Signal Technician I
High School Diploma or its equivalent, plus one (1) year experience in repair and maintenance of electrical and/or mechanical systems;
Or  any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
 
Traffic Signal Technician II
High School Diploma or the equivalent, plus three (3) years of experience in the repair and maintenance of electrical and/or mechanical systems and/or electronics such as communications, computer and peripheral, or control and instrumentation equipment;
Or  any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
 

Supplemental Information

Traffic Signal Technician I
IMSA Work Zone Certification or TEEX Work Zone Safety or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of date of hire.
 
Class A Texas CDL or the ability to acquire within 90-days of employment, with acceptable driving record.

Compensation Range: $17.98 to $25.87 per hour.

Traffic Signal Technician II
IMSA Work Zone Certification or TEEX Work Zone Safety and IMSA Traffic Signal Technician Certification Level I or higher, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of date of hire.
 
Class B Texas CDL or the ability to acquire within 90-days of employment, with acceptable driving record.
