Program Details

The IMSA Traffic Signal Senior Field Technician III Certification is designed to test an individual’s knowledge and skills of advanced traffic signal technologies used in the industry.

What Knowledge Should I Have Before Registering for the Program?

• M.U.T.C.D. (current edition)
• Basic electronics and electrical standards in the National Electrical Code and/or Canadian Electrical Code
• National Electric Safety Code (NESC)
• ITE – Traffic Control Devices Handbook (current edition)
• NEMA Standards TS1/TS2
• CalTrans Standards 170/2070
• Various traffic detection methods (acoustic, microwave, radar, loops, etc.)
• Lightning and grounding protection devices
• Traffic signal preemption devices
• Data communications methods (copper, fiber optic, wireless, etc.)

What are the Prerequisites?

• Current IMSA Traffic Signal Technician II certification
• Five years of experience in traffic signal operations
