Certification

IMSA Certification Programs

Public safety and transportation technologies are evolving, as are the skills required to install, maintain and manage them.

As the industry-leading standard for public safety certifications, IMSA’s exams reflect the day-to-day situations that technicians encounter in the field. An IMSA certification means that technicians are equipped with the appropriate skills to manage their jobs while positioning them for career advancement.

IMSA certification programs are offered exclusively at the annual Forum and Expo and through IMSA sections in hybrid, virtual and in-person formats.

IMSA moderator and student Joe Burris

"When I first started with public works, I was not sure what to do. In some areas, you can only learn so much before you become stale. Then, I was encouraged to get into traffic lights and I have not landed. The more I learned, the more I wanted to learn. Attending classes and becoming a moderator has increased my knowledge and allowed me to meet other techs in this industry." - Joe Burris

IMSA volunteer Darrell Geiss

"I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with industry experts, stay ahead of evolving standards, and contribute to the development of safer and more efficient municipal signal systems. Serving as Certification Chair allowed me to help shape the training and certification process, ensuring that professionals in our field have access to high-quality education and credentialing." - Darrell Geiss
