Traffic Signal Technician – IMSA II  About AM Signal Established in 2001, AM Signal has grown to be a leader in the distribution of traffic signal control devices and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). We are a full-service, stocking distributor for numerous product lines, with full support from design to technical. AM Signal has team members spanning the western United States covering a wide territory from Texas to California. About the Role: AM Signal is seeking a Traffic Signal Technician – IMSA II.  This role is primarily responsible for the Washington and Oregon area.  It is anticipated and preferable that the primary residence of the successful candidate should be in/near the Seattle/Tacoma metropolitan area. Duties & Responsibilities: Field Technician
  • Coordinate on new and existing projects – preparing documentation, products, software, backup equipment, etc.
  • Provide and ensure product training is completed for the client or contractor prior to product installation
  • Identify product deficiencies or needs and inform sales of potential opportunities
  • Actively promote new/ updated products and maintenance contracts.
  • Update firmware/software as needed.
Inside Technician
  • Facilitate returned merchandise (RMA) and repairs, provide documentation, log of issues, etc.
  • Keep current with changes in existing products and help the warehouse personnel, as necessary.
  • Technical Job Builds - Cabinet installation with wiring and component testing; Camera calibrating, burn-in, and new product line testing; Troubleshooting lower-level technical issues in terms of RMA and warehouse personnel; Programming, testing, and troubleshooting all product lines when required; Internal training for warehouse personnel when applicable for new product lines
  • Product Research and Development Support - The Technician is responsible for attaining a solid understanding of new technical products and their components/functions in order to train and QA before any sales take place; Maintain documentation, along with any associated product lines new or existing, and file in the company shared file system.
  • Software/Firmware Updates
Client Relations
  • Interaction with Clients - Attend technician-level tradeshows and gatherings; Work with DOTs, agencies, and contractors to ensure they are proficient and self-sufficient in the products being provided by AM Signal; Represent AM Signal and vendor partners professionally
  • Customer Follow-Up and Support - Traffic Control Software Programming and Testing and network design, installation, testing, maintenance, and configuration of network software/hardware.
Additional duties as required. Qualifications:
  • Must have IMSA certification (level II is preferred, but level 1 or those working toward certification will be considered)
  • Must have a Flagger Card
  • Valid driver’s license & vehicle (vehicle reimbursement for company travel)
  • Arrange regular vehicle cleaning and maintenance services.
  • Have and maintain a clean driving record with no traffic violations
  • 10% to 50% travel anticipated but up to 75% travel is possible at times (paid for by company)
  • Be a self-starter, detail-oriented, customer service-oriented

Compensation & Benefits:
  • Competitive base salary, depending on experience and IMSA Certification level

Full Salary Range is $40,437.42 - $58,631.55.  The successful candidate will be placed within the range based on experience and qualifications. A new annual pay range of $44,853.60 - $61,130.86 will be effective October 1, 2023.

Additional benefits of this position include on the job training, standby pay, and opportunities for overtime. This position is open until filled.

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Traffic Maintenance Foreman, this position performs a variety of specialized and responsible duties involving the construction, maintenance, repair and placement of traffic signs, traffic signals, street lights, pavement markings and related structures exercising considerable independent judgement to ensure the safe and efficient flow of vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Constructs, maintains and removes temporary traffic control for special events and emergency response. Assists with the maintenance of City streets, alleys and storm systems as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and three years of increasingly responsible traffic maintenance experience.   College level course work, industrial or military electronic experience preferred.
  • CDL preferred at time of hire. If no CDL at time of hire, must obtain valid Class B commercial driver’s license without a “No Full Air Brake” restriction and a tanker endorsement within 6 months of hire; a State of Idaho approved flagging card within 6 months of hire; an OSHA 10 card within 1 year of hire; a Traffic Control Technician Certification within 18 months of hire and an International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Signals Level II Certification within 18 months of hire.

About the position:

The City of San Bernardino is seeking a self-starter able to work in a fast-paced environment to perform skilled electrical and electronic maintenance duties in the installation, modification, maintenance, repair, overhaul, and adjustment of electrical and electronic traffic signals, traffic signal coordinated systems, flashing beacons, and other devices.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

High School Diploma, G.E.D.; and three (3) years of journey-level electrical and/or electronics maintenance, installation, and repair experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment

A valid State Class B commercial driver's license is required.

Current valid certification as a Traffic Signal Technician through the International Municipal Signal Association at the III level.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

The employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts; is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, vibration, and street/road traffic; and works in high, precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The noise level is frequently loud. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand and talk or hear; walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently list and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
