- Provides lead work guidance and direction; schedules and assists in assigning and reviewing the work of traffic signal and street lighting personnel in the construction, installation, maintenance, inspection, diagnosis, and repair of traffic signal systems and street lighting systems.
Responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of City traffic signals, street lighting, flashing beacons, RRFB’s, signs, and other assigned traffic control devices; inspects timing, operations, and/or conditions of signals, markings and signs;
Performs skilled electrical work in the installation, operation, general maintenance, repair, and adjustment of traffic signals;
Makes field and emergency repairs on traffic signal equipment, such as signal heads, traffic signal standards, detector loops, video detection and controllers;
Assists with relocations and modifications of traffic signals and electronic equipment at street intersections;
Installs street traffic detectors, video cameras, pedestrian push button units, safety lights and large illuminated traffic signs;
Turns on and tests traffic signals and makes timing adjustments;

Working Conditions and Selection Process

Description/Duties
- The current recruitment will be used to fill one (1) vacancy at either the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Technician Trainee, Technician I, or Technician II level.The first review of applications will be Monday, April 28, 2025, and weekly thereafter as needed.
ITS Technician Trainee ($46,930.42 - $66,070.16 annually)
Under direct supervision, an Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Technician Trainee learns to perform semiskilled work of routine to moderate difficulty in the installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signals. This class is also responsible for performing related duties as required.
Under the direct guidance of a journey-level ITS Technician II or ITS Operations Foreman, an employee in this class learns to maintain, install, and repair traffic signal equipment and systems. Initially, the ITS Technician Trainee develops skills and increases knowledge until such time as assignments can become more difficult. Work involves learning to perform heavy manual labor under varying weather conditions and may require stand-by duty and overtime as required. Employees of this classification may progress by noncompetitive promotion to ITS Technician I upon meeting the specific criteria-based promotion requirements of performance and coursework. This class is FLSA nonexempt.
ITS Technician I ($54,319.20 - $76,472.86 annually) Under general supervision, an Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Technician I performs skilled work in the installation, maintenance, operation, and repair of electrical and electronic traffic signal control devices, various communication devices, and the ITS components. This position performs related duties, as required. An employee in this class is expected to install, maintain, monitor, troubleshoot, and repair current and future ITS infrastructures and interfaces such as various traffic signal cabinet systems; vehicle detection systems; traffic control devices; dynamic message signs; communication systems; perform preventive maintenance on ITS equipment such as control cabinets, video cameras and subsystems, interconnect, and electrical wiring. Work includes troubleshooting malfunctions and responding to trouble calls. The ITS Technician II will function in a lead capacity to the ITS Technician Trainee and the ITS Technician I. This position performs related duties, as required.
