Anaheim, CA, September 29, 2025—Econolite, a trusted leader in intelligent traffic management solutions and part of Umovity, announced today that its ZX Super Capacitor based-UPS systems by TechPower Developments, Inc. have been added to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Approved Products List (APL) under APL number 685-002-012. The ZX Super Capacitor Battery Modules in this APL certification can be used with the TechPower UPS or with other FDOT-approved UPS Systems for new implementations or to replace lead-acid batteries in existing UPS systems.

TechPower ZX Super Capacitor modules, paired with its series of smart double conversion UPS systems, provide scalable ‘green’ battery energy that lasts decades beyond lead-acid batteries in the same application with zero maintenance and zero environmental impact. “We are excited about the addition of the Super Capacitor UPS system to FDOT’s APL,” said Jim Madden, Econolite’s Senior Vice President of U.S. Sales. “The ZX Super Cap system is ideally suited for providing a greener and higher performing UPS solution to mission critical infrastructure. The Super Capacitor UPS solution is going to help deliver safer and more resilient roadways in Florida.”

The FDOT APL 685-002-012 certification includes part numbers DBLMX1000U-36, DBLMX1000U-48, and DBLMX1400U-36 that meet the UPS specifications for Florida’s installed base of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and traffic signal cabinets. The UPS solution includes the ZX1000 and ZX2000 Graphene-based Super Capacitor battery modules. These are an innovative approach to providing battery backup power for traffic applications. Super Capacitor modules do not contain any chemical batteries, so they are virtually unaffected by extremely low or high temperatures unlike lead-acid batteries. They also cannot be damaged by storage at low charge and can take hundreds of thousands of charge/discharge cycles.

“FDOT’s approval reinforces the dynamic capabilities of the Super Capacitor solution in providing a more intelligent, longer lasting, and greener UPS alternative to lead-acid-based systems,” said Paul Bianchi, President of TechPower Developments. “We’re thrilled to be on the FDOT Approved Product List and look forward to working with Econolite to deliver the innovative solutions that further Florida’s sustainability and safety goals.”

The ZX Super Capacitor battery modules can connect in parallel, enabling transportation agencies to deploy as many batteries as required for the application (up to 10). By adding the optional DC Hot Swap Switch to the system, users can swap out depleted battery modules for fresh ones during a power outage.
