The revolutionary traffic cabinet helps the city meet today’s demands while preparing for future technology.

SAN DIEGO, California, March 08, 2022 – McCain Inc., a leader in the supply of advanced transportation solutions for safety and mobility, and a wholly-owned subsidiary of the SWARCO Group, today announced Cedar Park, Texas as the first U.S. city to install ATC Cabinets at all intersections. This upgrade at all 56 of its intersections is a significant milestone for Cedar Park and the industry as a whole. Cedar Park, Texas, located along the northern border of Austin, was an early adopter of the ATC Cabinet, going back to their first installment of a McCain ATC Cabinet in 2014.

On the heels of the ATC Cabinet’s product launch, Cedar Park began switching from the NEMA TS2 standard to McCain’s ATC Cabinets. The city’s ATC Cabinets are outfitted with McCain’s ATC eX 2070 Controller and its companion, Omni eX® Intersection Control Software. “One of our biggest goals is to ensure that any technology we install at our intersections will not only accommodate today’s demands but will set the stage for us to implement future technologies,” said Stephen Hanuscin, Assistant Director of Public Works – Field Operations for the City of Cedar Park. “For example, when we chose to begin replacing signal cabinets in 2014, we knew we had to adopt the ATC standard so that our infrastructure would be ready for connected vehicle technology and able to log the high-resolution data necessary for automated signal performance metrics.”

Cedar Park is committed to sustainable growth through infrastructure planning and has succeeded in focusing on infrastructure investments that provide safe and efficient traffic flow, ongoing road construction and improvement, and technology updates that streamline intersection performance. One significant example of this commitment is the focus on placing ATC Cabinets, ATC controllers, and local intersection control software across the City of Cedar Park to accommodate today’s demands, while preparing for future technologies.

“We need to ensure that our transportation systems are equipped to handle Cedar Park’s current and future traffic infrastructure needs,” Hanuscin continued. “Whether a driver lives in Cedar Park, is visiting for the day, or is just passing through, we want them to get to their destination as safely and efficiently as possible.”

When asked about the adoption of the ATC Cabinet Hanuscin stated, “The ATC cabinet has been a solid choice and has been instrumental in helping us take steps toward achieving our transportation and mobility goals. As with any new technology, there was a learning curve associated with the transition from TS2 to ATC, but the support we received–from help in the field on the very first installation and hands-on training to responsive customer support–eased that transition. And now I’m proud to say that Cedar Park is 100 percent ATC.”

With over 3,000 McCain ATC Cabinet deployments nationwide, McCain remains at the forefront of advanced traffic solutions by continuing to focus on innovation and the core values of safety, modularity, and energy efficiency.
