To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential functions of this position satisfactorily. The Traffic Signal Supervisor is responsible for overseeing, programming, troubleshooting, and coordinating all the activities of vehicle and pedestrian detection systems. Their duties include coordinating subcontractors, performing quality control and safety checks, and providing on-site direction when preparing construction sites. The individual in this position must be honest, follow non-discriminatory employment practices, and have a strong work ethic. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ability to perform technical work in intelligent transportation systems (ITS) requiring specialized expertise such as in communications (fiber optic and wireless), ITS devices such as CCTV cameras, dynamic message signs, vehicle detectors, and other ITS devices and technologies (by experience and/or schooling) with experience supervising ITS Technicians
- Experience in Trafficware vehicle and pedestrian detection, intelligent systems, synchro studio systems is a plus.
- IMSA, Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3 Certification required.
- Maintain and repair existing signals and signal equipment, such as camera detection systems, inductive loops and detectors, radio system, railroad pre-emption, fire/optical pre-emption, signal wiring, controllers, conflict monitors.
- Install and maintain battery backups for uninterrupted power supplies.
- Install and maintain street lighting and overhead roadway lighting.
- Set up safety work zones pursuant to International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) guidelines when working near vehicular traffic flow.
- Serve in an on-call status as assigned to respond to after-hours service needs.
- Must obtain IMSA Certifications, Work Zone Safety, Signs and Markings I, Traffic Signal I, Traffic Signal II certifications within two years of hire date.
- Must be proficient in the use of a computer and standard office software programs. Must be able to effectively operate standard office equipment.
- Must be capable of effectively operating bucket truck.
- While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen for safety reasons or to operate specific equipment. The employee regularly is required to stand, walk, and sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision as well as vision abilities to accomplish computer, electrical and electronic work.
- While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; and risk of vibration.
- Installing, maintaining, and repairing of all traffic signal equipment including controllers, poles, signal heads, conduit, wiring, vehicle detectors and other traffic control devices.
- Operates any hand tools, power tools, and equipment necessary to perform all trade associated assignments.
- Can effectively communicate with peers, crew, project supervision, and other trades.
- Work with President to develop a training program for back up Traffic Signal Technicians
- Enforces all company safety and all client-required policies and procedures.
- Fulfills all regular and advanced installation/construction duties, including project layout, and completes required paperwork in a timely manner.
- Organizational skills, including time management, delegation, prioritization and multitasking.
- Any other duties assigned as needed.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE that will be developed during the first few months of this position.
- Good communications skills, both written and oral
- Ability to read and understand gauges and other indicators.
- Ability to troubleshoot problems and offer solutions.
- Strong critical thinking skills
- Ability to apply concepts of basic math.
- IMSA, Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3 Certification required.
- (CDL) Class A, B, or C with appropriate endorsements. If a license is required, must be maintained throughout employment in this position.
- Ability to manage time between two or more projects at one time.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions and procedures.
- The ability to apply knowledge and skills to achieve intended results.
- Possesses working knowledge of excel and can utilize this tool to aid in planning and estimating quantities.
- Must successfully complete the Traffic Control Technician certification as assigned by the company.
- Must hold current Forklift certification.
- Maintain a current CDL.
- Must be familiar with operation and maintenance of Bucket Trucks, Diggers Derricks, and Truck Mounted Cranes for a roadway electrical contractor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid CDL driver’s license and Physical Card a plus
- Must meet the fleet policy driver eligibility requirements in order to be a company sanctioned driver.
- Must hold current First Aid, CPR, AED, and Flagger certification (training provided)
- Satisfactory background check
- Available for on-call needs as requested.
- The physical ability to immediately respond to emergency situations.
