Job Description
This class is responsible for performing journeyman trades duties. The position will be required to perform work on highly specialized equipment associated with traffic signals, and depending on grade level, will act as a lead worker, directing personnel in the proper repair / replacement of equipment.  This employee must be able to trouble-shoot equipment to determine the cause of any problems and make accurate and timely decisions with respect to repairs and/or replacements.

Essential Duties

  • Managing the ATMS/ITS On-Demand Contract and overseeing the contractor
  • Managing fiber locates and overseeing the fiber locates contractor
  • Inspecting ATMS related portions of projects
  • Maintaining the communications network (troubleshooting, field switch replacement, fiber testing, etc.)
  • Maintaining cameras (troubleshooting, firmware upgrades, replacement schedule, etc.)
  • Maintaining the school flasher system

Public Speaking Duties

  • Ability to communicate effectively and engage with staff, citizens, leadership, and elected officials as needed.

Other Job Requirements/Information

  • This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing.
  • This job may require on-call rotation and emergency after hours, weekends, and/or holidays.

Grade
The grade for this position is A123, B213, B233. Salary will be dependent on education and experience.

Effective 4/11/2023, this position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program.

Minimum Qualifications

Trades Technician I (A123)- $34,789-$53,923

  • High School diploma or GED
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) must be obtained within 12 months of employment.  Once CDL obtained, this position will require DOT drug testing and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Gwinnett County Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace.

Trades Technician II (B213)- $41,062-$65,699

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Two years of trades experience
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) must be obtained within 12 months of employment.  Once CDL obtained, this position will require DOT drug testing and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Gwinnett County Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace.
  • IMSA Certification as a Traffic Signal Technician Level 1
  • Work Zone Safety Traffic certification

Trades Technician III (B233)- $48,658-$77,853

  • High School diploma
  • Four years of trades experience
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) must be obtained within 12 months of employment.  Once CDL obtained, this position will require DOT drug testing and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Gwinnett County Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace.
  • IMSA Certification as a Traffic Signal Technician Level 1 and Level 2
  • Work Zone Safety Traffic certification
